16, 18, 21? Advice on Buying the Perfect Coming of Age Jewellery Gift.

It’s always tricky to know what to buy someone for a milestone birthday, but the coming of age birthdays always seem that much harder. Perhaps it’s because it’s such a significant milestone in a young person’s life that it seems tricky, or perhaps it’s just because you may feel out of touch with the gift recipient’s style.

If you’re pondering what to get someone as a coming of age present, then jewellery is always a good option. Why not pay a visit to your local jeweller? In Woodford and surrounding areas lots of people call in to see us for advice here at EK Jewellers, and now you also have the benefit of our handy coming of age gift giving guide!

Sweet 16

Due to the influence of our cousins across the pond, a girl’s 16th birthday is now almost as much of a milestone as her 18th or 21st. If you know a young lady that’s about to turn 16, you’ll certainly be in her good books with a piece of jewellery to celebrate the occasion.

We would suggest not going too mad for a 16th birthday, as you’ll still have important gifts to give in the not-too-distant future for her 18th or 21st. Having said that, you’ll find lots of pendants and charms for charm bracelets with ‘sweet 16’ slogans on them, and these would make a good middle of the road choice.

18 and Officially an Adult!

18th birthdays are big deals. You will probably want to go a little bit more grown up than you would with a sweet 16 present, and therefore the likes of a first diamond for a girl – either small diamond stud earrings or a diamond pendant – or a watch for a young man are ideal.

If you want something a little more unusual, why not buy a birthstone piece of jewellery?  Buying a birthstone piece for the now-adult birthday girl or boy will really show that some thought has gone into the gift.

21: Key to the Door!

21 really is a special birthday, and as such you should think about buying a special piece of jewellery to give.

Watches are a great choice for both male and female 21st birthdays, as is anything slightly more sophisticated, such as cufflinks for young men or real pearls for a girl. Try to match the gift with the recipient’s style too, which is likely to be quite apparent by this age.

For example, if the recipient is a young lady with a penchant for all things vintage, then the aforementioned pearls are ideal. If, however, they are a little more quirky or eclectic in their tastes, how about opting for a key pendant to symbolise giving ‘the key to the door’ at 21?

Whatever birthday you’re buying for, you’re bound to find something special at EK Jewellers. Woodford and surrounding customers are welcome to come in for advice; we’ll point you in the right direction of that certain something both special and fashionable for coming of age birthdays.
