1960s Jewellery: a 2016 Trend

If you’ve been shopping recently, you’ll see that all the shops are filled with 1960s inspired clothing. Everything from the mini skirt to the psychedelic dress is back.

And with 1960s’ dresses, you’ll need 1960s’ jewellery. To complete the look – from Mod to Rocker and even through to hippy – take a trip to EK Jewellers; Chigwell fashion lovers can get the retro look through our jewellery ranges.

The Mods

For the Mods it was all about geometric shapes and patterns. Everything was oversized, and monochrome and colour blocking were also key trends, so keep jewellery on the large side as well as black and white.

Think large, white circular earrings; the bigger the better! By keeping them white, if you go all out and try out sixties make up too, the white of the earrings will reflect your white eyeliner, which will give you a great retro vibe.

Team chunky jewellery with a mini dress and oversized sunglasses and you’ll really have the look nailed!

The Rockers

Admittedly the Rockers’ look was more about the clothes than the jewellery, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t accessories to give this look a 2016 twist.

Think leather jackets and motif scarves, and then add a bold pendent on a long chain. Rocker girls’ hair was big – as was most hair in the sixties – so counter this with large, chunky earrings to make a statement.

If you want to add a pretty, modern feel to a leather jacket, choose something less rocky and more feminine and then add brooches rather than pin badges, as badges would have been the look in the 1960s. This will just give a nod to the era but without taking it to a completely retro level.

The Hippies

The hippy look is a really fun look which you can achieve to a lesser or greater degree depending on how retro you want to go.

The hippies loved anything natural, and wooden jewellery was a big trend. Even if you don’t want to have too much of a hippy vibe in your clothes, you can add layers of coloured wooden beads, both necklaces and bracelets, as well as pendants on long chains to add a hippy feel to your outfit.

The sixties’ look is very versatile and you can do as little or as much as you like with it, which is why it’s a fantastic trend for 2016. If you want to see for yourself how you can add the trend to your wardrobe this year, it’s time to take a trip to your jeweller. Chigwell, Hainault and Loughton locals can visit EK Jewellers to get the perfect sixties look.
