How to Style a Vintage Bridal Jewellery Look

Vintage continues to be a massive trend, both on the high street and in bridal fashion. It’s a pretty, delicate, feminine look which you can either hint upon or go all out with. It’s a look you can create either with ready-to-wear pieces or with bespoke jewellery to give that little extra unique sparkle.

Whether you want to full-on vintage for your big day or fancy just a hint of its sweet charms, here are a few ideas to help you master the look.

The Less-is- More Vintage Look

If you want to add just a touch of vintage to your bridal look, it’s really quite straightforward. Choose your era and select one or two pieces. Remember that you can go slightly larger with just a few items than if you’re wearing a whole host of jewellery.

Choose large drop pearl earrings, for example, or an ornate pearl and diamond comb for your hair. If you’re thinking of adding just a couple of pieces of vintage jewellery, why not have a piece of bespoke jewellery crafted for your big day? Alternatively, you could have an heirloom piece remodelled as your ‘something borrowed’.

The So-Very Vintage Look

For a more obvious vintage look, you’ll want your overall big day style to reflect a certain era. For a romantic, traditional look, team lace with pearls: a lace overlay dress with beautiful pearl earrings, necklaces and bracelets, for example, or opt for a hint of lace in your veil, perhaps interspersed with lace seed beads.

Remember that you can do vintage with a modern twist: layer several bracelets on your wrist, or even wear long strings of pearls over a traditional lace dress to give it a bit of a kick. These looks are pretty daring as far as bridal fashion goes, but they can give you a really striking style on your wedding day.

The All-Out Vintage Look

For a complete vintage look you really need to go all out: the hair, the dress, the shoes and, of course, the jewellery.

Start by choosing your favourite era. 1940s glamour is popular: think tea length wedding dress, bird cage veil and hair swept into a massive victory roll at the nape of your neck.

Go large: a bold, floral hairpiece with the bird cage veil attached, or if you have strings of pearls, beads or jewels that have seen better days, why not have them made into a piece that you can weave through your hair? It’s a really ornate look, and that’s why bespoke jewellery works so well for this look, because you can choose something that you feel comfortable with.

No matter what level of vintage you opt for, it’s well worth speaking to your local jeweller about a piece of bespoke jewellery.
