Time to Pimp your Watch?

You’ve probably heard of jewellers customising and remodelling pieces of jewellery to give it a new lease of life, but have you heard of this being done with watches, too? The chances are you probably haven’t, and we wouldn’t blame you as it’s not as widespread as remodelling jewellery.

That said, it is becoming more popular, and it’s something that can be carried out on site at your local jewellers. It’s time to think again if you thought that the only thing that your local jeweller could help you with was a new watch battery; it’s time to pimp your watch!

Old Watch, New Tricks

If you’ve got an heirloom or antique watch, your local jeweller will be able to bring it back to life. Many a watch which has stopped working when handed down to a new owner can be given the kiss of life with a little bit of restoration work.

Movement work can be replaced, and cleaning and servicing can be undertaken on the premises to get your watch ticking again. Sometimes all your watch may need is something as simple as that aforementioned new watch battery to get it going again, so it’s worth popping in to see your jeweller to find out what’s required.

Got to Hand it to You

If you want to give your watch a completely different look, speak to your jeweller about swapping parts. For example, the hands can sometimes be swapped to change its look. Choose something masculine and functional if you want a strong utilitarian look to your watch, or pretty it up with more ornate hands.

Similarly, logos can sometimes be added or taken away from watch faces, the case can be engraved with a special message, and the glass of the case can be replaced with something slightly different, so speak to your jeweller about what’s possible for your type of timepiece.

Band of Gold (or Silver, or Black, or Pink…)

Of course, the easiest way to change your watch’s look is to replace its band. You can choose a metal band in the colour of your watch face (for example, yellow gold, silver, rose gold etc.), or a leather band in a whole array of colours.

Think about how you want the watch to look: men often opt for chunky, robust metal bands to give their timepiece a strong feel, whereas women quite often like the bracelet-style bands to enable them to wear their watch as a fashion piece.

Whether you’re in the market for a completely different look for your watch, or just need a new watch battery, Ilford watch lovers, why not visit your local jeweller?
